Question 1 of 10
1. Question
The ages of two sisters differ by 6 years. 4 years ago, the elder sister was two times as old as the younger sister. What is the present age of the younger sister?
Correct
Let’s take the present age of the elder sister = x
and the present age of the younger sister = x – 6
4 years ago,
(x-4)=2(x-6-4)
x-4=2(x-10)
x-4=2x-20
2x-x = 20-4
X=16
Therefore the present age of the elder sister = x =16 years
The present age of the younger sister= x – 6 = 16-6 =10 years

Question 2 of 10
2. Question
The average age of an office of 29 workers is 12 years. If the age of the manager be included then the average increases by 6 months, find the age of the manager.
Correct
The age of 29 workers = (29*12)
=348 yrs
Average age of 30 persons = 12 yrs 6 months
=25 / 2 yrs
Total age of 30 persons = (25 / 2* 30)
=375 yrs
Age of the manager = (375 – 348)
=27 yrs
Incorrect
The age of 29 workers = (29*12)
=348 yrs
Average age of 30 persons = 12 yrs 6 months
=25 / 2 yrs
Total age of 30 persons = (25 / 2* 30)

Question 3 of 10
3. Question
The odds against an event are 3/4 and the odds in favour of another independent event are 5/7. Find the probability that at least one of the two events will occur.
Correct
Let the probability of the first event taking place be A and probability of the second event taking place be B.
Then,
P(A)=1/4
P(B)=5/7
Required probability = 1- (Both the events will not occur)
=>1-(3/4*2/7)=1-3/14=11/14
Incorrect

Question 4 of 10
4. Question
A Bus covers a distance from Town A to Town B at the speed of 68 kmph and from Town B to Town A at the speed of 62 kmph. What is the approximate average speed of the Bus?
Correct
x1 = 68 km/hr
x2 = 62 km/hr
Average speed = 2*x1*x2/(x1 + x2) = 2 x 68 x 62/(68 + 62)
= 64.86 = 65 km/hr
Incorrect
x1 = 68 km/hr
x2 = 62 km/hr
Average speed = 2*x1*x2/(x1 + x2) = 2 x 68 x 62/(68 + 62)
= 64.86 = 65 km/hr
Question 5 of 10
5. Question
In a shop, deodorants are available at a discount of 32% on the marked price. If a deodorant sold at Rs 4950.4, what is the marked price of the deodorant?
Correct
Let the marked price = x, then
Selling price = (100 – 32) % of x = 68% of x
= 68/100 * x
Now, 68x/100 = 4950.4
x = 72.8 x 100 = 7280
Incorrect
Let the marked price = x, then
Selling price = (100 – 32) % of x = 68% of x
= 68/100 * x
Now, 68x/100 = 4950.4
x = 72.8 x 100 = 7280
Question 6 of 10
6. Question
The cost of 11 kg of Rava is Rs. 264, 14 kg of Ghee is Rs 252 and 17 litres of Juice is Rs 544. What is the total cost of 24 kg of Rava, 21 kg of ghee and 25 litres of Juice?
Correct
Cost of 11 kg of Rava = Rs 264
∴ Cost of 24 kg of Rava
= Rs 24/11 x 264 = Rs 576
Cost of 14 kg of ghee = Rs 252
∴ Cost of 21 kg of ghee = 21/14 x 252 = Rs 378
Cost of 17 litres of juice = Rs 544
∴ Cost of 25 litres of juice = 25/17 x 544 = Rs 800
∴ The total cost of 24 kg of rava, 21 kg of ghee and 25 litres of juice
= 576 + 378 + 800 = Rs 1754
Incorrect
Question 7 of 10
7. Question
Sonu invested an amount of Rs 17500 at the rate of 8% per annum. After how many years will she get a simple interest of Rs 16800?
Correct
P = Rs 17500, R = 8% pa, T =?
Now, simple interest = PRT/100
or, 16800 = 17500 x 8 x T/100
∴ T = 16800/ (175 x 8) = 12 years
Incorrect
P = Rs 17500, R = 8% pa, T =?
Now, simple interest = PRT/100
or, 16800 = 17500 x 8 x T/100
∴ T = 16800/ (175 x 8) = 12 years
Question 8 of 10
8. Question
Two years ago the ratio of the ages of Renu and Ammu was 5 : 7. Two years hence the ratio of their ages will be 7 : 9. What is the present age of Ammu?
Correct
Suppose two years ago Renu’s age was 5x and two years ago Ammu’s age was 7x.
So two years hence Renu’s age will be 5x + 4 and Ammu’s age’s will be 7x + 4.
But, (5x + 4)/(7x + 4) = 7/9
45x + 36 = 49 x + 28
4x = 8
∴ x = 2
∴ Two years ago Ammu’s age was 14 years.
So, the present age of Ammu is 16 years.
Incorrect
Suppose two years ago Renu’s age was 5x and two years ago Ammu’s age was 7x.
So two years hence Renu’s age will be 5x + 4 and Ammu’s age’s will be 7x + 4.
But, (5x + 4)/(7x + 4) = 7/9
45x + 36 = 49 x + 28
4x = 8
∴ x = 2
∴ Two years ago Ammu’s age was 14 years.
So, the present age of Ammu is 16 years.
Question 9 of 10
9. Question
Two candidates fought an election. One of them got 75% of the total votes and won by 1300 votes. What is the total number of votes polled?
Correct
One candidate got 75% of total votes.
So, the other candidate got 25% of the total votes.
Because, Percentage of votes by which first candidates won = 50%
∴ 50% of total votes = 1300
∴ 100% of total votes = 100/50 x 1300
∴ Total votes = 2600
Incorrect
One candidate got 75% of total votes.
So, the other candidate got 25% of the total votes.
Because, Percentage of votes by which first candidates won = 50%
∴ 50% of total votes = 1300
∴ 100% of total votes = 100/50 x 1300
∴ Total votes = 2600
Question 10 of 10
10. Question
45 people can complete a piece of work in 60 days. In how many days can 90 people with twice the efficiency; complete the same piece of work?
Correct
For first group of people
Total people P_{1} = 45
Efficiency E_{1} = E
Days D_{1} = 60
For second group of people
Total people P_{2} = 90
Efficiency E_{2} = 2E
Days D_{2} =?
∴ P_{1}E_{1}D_{1} = P_{2}E_{2}D_{2}
∴ D_{2} = P_{1}E_{1}D_{1}/P_{2}E_{2} = 45 x E x 60/90 x 2E = 15 days.
Incorrect
For first group of people
Total people P_{1} = 45
Efficiency E_{1} = E
Days D_{1} = 60
For second group of people
Total people P_{2} = 90
Efficiency E_{2} = 2E
Days D_{2} =?
∴ P_{1}E_{1}D_{1} = P_{2}E_{2}D_{2}
∴ D_{2} = P_{1}E_{1}D_{1}/P_{2}E_{2} = 45 x E x 60/90 x 2E = 15 days.
