📋Quick Overview
Genetics is study of heredity. Gregor Mendel (Father of Genetics) used pea plants. His 3 laws: Law of Dominance (one allele dominates), Law of Segregation (alleles separate during gamete formation), Law of Independent Assortment (genes for different traits separate independently). DNA = Deoxyribonucleic Acid (double helix, Watson & Crick 1953). RNA = Ribonucleic Acid (single strand). Genotype=genetic makeup; Phenotype=physical appearance. Sex determination: XX=Female, XY=Male (father determines sex). Genetic disorders: Colour blindness, Haemophilia (both X-linked). DNA fingerprinting by Alec Jeffreys (1984).
