Rivers of India
Geography · भारत की नदियां
📋Quick Overview
India's rivers are classified into two main systems: Himalayan Rivers (perennial — fed by glaciers and rain, e.g., Ganga, Brahmaputra, Indus) and Peninsular Rivers (seasonal — rain-fed, e.g., Godavari, Krishna, Kaveri, Narmada, Tapti). Most Indian rivers flow east and drain into the Bay of Bengal. Only Narmada and Tapti among major rivers flow west into the Arabian Sea. The Ganga is the longest river in India, while the Godavari is the longest peninsular river (called Dakshin Ganga).
